Anomaly Guide#97
Extraction Chain Fail to Advance

First determine which device triggered the anomaly by examining the anomaly message on the application's computer console (within the Metalprogetti B2K/BAM/MAP application).
For Uniform Conveyor Systems running B2K
The anomaly record will contain both the CONVEYOR number as well as a POINT description which indicates the faulting device (arm, gate, etc).
For Order Assembly Systems running MAP or Storage Systems running BAM
The device ID is made up of 4 digits - the first 2 indicate the conveyor ID, the second 2 indicate the device ID. In the following examples, XX represents conveyor ID while the last 2 digits represent the device. Main conveyor anomalies will always be XX-00, extraction arm anomalies will always be XX-01 through XX-10 depending on how many arms are installed, and feedrail anomalies will always be XX-11 as demonstrated below.
Extraction anomalies will show as XX-01 up to XX-10 | Anomaly 97 Extraction Chain Fail to Advance 01-03 = conveyor #1, arm #3
Possible Causes Checks to Perform
Extraction chain obstructed and unable to spin Verify there are no mechanical or physical obstructions (such as jammed hangers) from preventing the motor from turning. Sometimes a chain link pin will be forced behind or inside the plastic guide on which it spins, preventing the motor from being able to move it which will result in fail to advance anomalies.

-If hanger is jammed in the chain, use pliers to work hanger free
-If chain link pin is stuck behind guide, use pliers to work the pin free
-If obstruction is difficult to detect, remove guards for better visibility

Note: If obstruction is severe, it may be necessary to 'yank' the chain forwards or backwards by hand. This can be achieved by introducing slack on the chain and then slipping it off its drive sprocket as detailed below.

Extraction chain disassembly
Locate and loosen the 2 large bolts that secure the motor onto the arm. Once loosened, slide motor towards conveyor and work the chain free of its drive sprocket. If chain is difficult to remove from sprocket, remove the 2 large bolts and then carefully wrestle the motor/sprocket free of the chain.

Once the obstruction is resolved, proceed with the following checks.
Pin sensor has become damaged or defective Verify sensor functionality with metal screwdriver or similar object by holding close to sensor face until light comes on, then slowly moving away until light turns off. If light on sensor is already on, proceed to next check. If light on sensor does not respond to the presence of metal - replace sensor and test.
Pin sensor not detecting chain movement Verify sensor detects the pins as they pass by using the instructions below:

1) Open the arm's subpanel located on top of conveyor where arm is mounted
2) Identify all contactors (model number begins with 3RT) and all thermal protectors (model number begins with 3RU or 3RB)
3) Briefly engage (just 2 or 3 seconds) each contactor (small button below surface) to determine if chain spins

While chain spins, check if indicator light on sensor flickers when a pin passes in front of it. If sensor does not respond to the movement of the chain, verify pin sensor is only 1mm to 2mm away from the pins.
Pin sensor signal not reaching PLC in main panel Check whether an input on the PLC flickers in conjunction with the LED on the pin sensor. Two people are needed to perform this check - one to engage the motor's electrical contactor, and one to watch the PLC for the flickering light. If unable to correlate or detect the pulses, contact Metalprogetti Support department for further assistance.
